Microdermabrasion is the process of removing dead skin cells with miniscule, abrasive particles moving at high speeds. It's very much like a sand blast for the skin only much more controlled. These particles are typically made of aluminum oxide, zinc oxide or some type of crystal such as diamond. A vacuum pulls the crystals away from the face along the the dead skin cells, thereby polishing the skin.
The purpose of microdermabrasion is to treat the appearance of fine wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, discolored and sun damaged skin. The procedure typically takes 30 minutes to conclude and the patient will usually undergo at least 5 treatments. There is no recovery time for this procedure.
