Eyelid lift surgery, medically known as blepharoplasty is a procedure in which excess skin and fat tissue are removed from either the upper or lower eyelids or both. Typically, the upper eyelids are done to improve peripheral vision and to smooth the skin. The lower lids are done for cosmetic reasons, i.e. to remove bags and wrinkled skin for a more youthful appearance.
For the upper eyelids and incision is made in the natural crease to camouflage scarring. Excess skin and fat are removed and the incisions are closed with a fine, dissolvable suture.
For the lower eyelid an incision is made along the line of the eyelashes and/or smile lines. The excess skin and fat are removed and fine sutured. To eliminate bags or puffiness, a transconjunctival blepharoplasty is performed. The incisions are made on the inside of the eyelid so no scars are visible whatsoever.
