Chin Augmentation (Mentoplasty)

A chin augmentation has several purposes that may be served including creating a more bilaterally symetrical face, a stronger chin line or to even the contours of the face if there are other prominent facial features such as a protruding nose.
Chin implants are inserted into a pocket made by incision under the chin or inside the mouth below the gum line. These implants are typically made of a combination of silicone and ePTFE (Expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene) for a very soft, flexible but very strong implant.
Chin augmentation is often performed at the same time as rhinoplasty ( a nose job ) but not necessarily so. The nose and other facial features may already be pleasing to the eye and the only correction necessary is the chin.
The surgery itself takes about 2 hours and an overnight hospital stay is necessary.
